    Different types of Voip Connections

There are several different types of VoIP connection that is available on the market. Some will allow you to place local and international calls for free with a few restrictions. Others require a small fee but are still considerably cheaper than traditional land line calls. Whichever connection you think is best for your business, Colocation America can help you set up your VoIP connection and can provide your company with its own dedicated VoIP server to ensure that all calls made are stable and secure.

    VoIP Connections

VoIP allows for different types of connections to be made so that customers can choose between which types of connection will make the most sense for their business. A VoIP dialer can configure to a variety of different calling methods so users can pick the medium they want to use to make phone calls. The price range for a VoIP phone call can be free to charging a small fee for international calls. It all depends on which configuration is used and what is available for you and the person you want to connect with.

This is the first instance of VoIP connection and is free to use as long as you and the other person are using the same services. For example, Skype provides its users with free telephone calls over the internet but users can only call other Skype members. This type of connection is cheap to set up too because all it requires is a computer with a sound card, a microphone, and registration to either Skype or a service like Skype (think MSN or Google phone).

The quality of the connection depends on the computer being used and the type of internet connection you have with you. If you are experiencing lag time with your calls or get dropped calls then you might want to consider upgrading your internet connection and computer to make sure you have the equipments necessary to handle all the information being sent out and received through this type of VoIP connection.

    Computer to Phone Connection

This is where VoIP service providers start making money. Computer to computer connections are free because it cost the providers nothing to set it up. You connect to another person's computer through the internet but what if you want to talk to someone through their direct phone line? A computer to phone connection will allow you to use your computer with a 3rd party software (Skype, MSN) to connect to a traditional land line telephone. The 3rd party software takes the data from your computer and converts it to data that can be sent through telephone lines, converting your computer into an old school telephone.

voip-connectionInternational businesses favor this type of connection because it allows them to make cheap international calls to places that might not have an internet connection. Unlike computer to computer connection, this type of connection only requires one person to have an Internet connection. The price of making international calls over VoIP is cheaper than making an international call over landlines. Businesses can save money if they deal with a lot of international customers or suppliers by switching to VoIP services for their calling needs.

    SIP to SIP Connection

SIP stands for Session Initiation Protocol which is the technical term for the protocol used during a VoIP connection. What SIP to SIP connection does is that you can make a VoIP calls using a SIP phone. This type of connection can be free but it requires you to purchase SIP software or hardware to convert your phone to a VoIP enabled device. There are other ways to connect without having to buy SIP software or owning a SIP phone. It is through a VoIP service provider and they charge you a small fee, like the computer to phone connection, for placing calls from one telephone to another. You will also still need to buy a special adaptor for your phone connection to be converted into a signal that can be transmitted through the Internet.
