January 31, 2013Microsoft has constructed many of its latest data centers using state-of-the-art equipment and/or designs.
Microsoft has just announced it will invest $348 million into its existing data center campus in Virginia.
This investment adds to the initial amount Microsoft paid out to construct the campus in 2010. Once complete, the expansion is expected to provide up to 30 new jobs.
Local Incentives Influence Microsoft
Local and state officials have put money into the project to lure Microsoft back into building again. So far, local and state officials have approved a $2 million grant to assist in construction efforts.
Microsoft of course has many other data centers located around the world but has invested heavily in Cloud Computing infrastructure across the east coast. Aside from helping the local economy, Microsoft says the expansion is necessary to support cloud computing demands in the marketplace.
Microsoft has constructed many of its latest data centers using state-of-the-art equipment and/or designs. The Virginia expansion will be no different and will offer custom designed rack-space to accommodate high density deployments.
The Microsoft Wyoming data center is a perfect example of the company’s commitment to environmentally friendly design. Mainstream players such as Google and Yahoo are following in Microsoft’s footsteps, leading the way in modern data center design.
