Colocation America Sponsors Guest Speaker Series in Support of Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

Leading colocation provider connects guest speakers with arc Experience and Green Dot Public Schools at Ànimo Leadership Charter High School to inspire young women to pursue a career in STEM.

Los Angeles, March 26, 2014 – Colocation America – a trusted colocation and dedicated server hosting provider — has sponsored a guest speaker series in association with arc, CORE Educational Services and Green Dot Public Schools to inspire young women to pursue a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

women in stemThe guest speaker series continues to take place every Tuesday through March 25th at Ànimo Leadership Charter High School in Lennox, an unincorporated neighborhood south of downtown Los Angeles. Guest speakers will explain which educational paths led them to a career in STEM and students will have the opportunity to engage with the guest speakers during an informative Q&A session following the discussion.

“We created this concept with CORE, arc and Green Dot Public Schools to inspire the young minds that are interested in STEM related professions,” says Samantha Walters, VP of Online Strategies at Colocation America.

“There is a strong demand for women in technology related fields and we are concerned that young women aren’t getting the encouragement they need to pursue education related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” adds Walters.

Brad Lupien, Founder and President at arc states, “It is critical that, as education reformers and advocates for young people, we create opportunities where they do not currently exist.  We need to look at the best practices of the elite private schools and replicate them for our urban public schools.  The Women in STEM speaker series creates a unique opportunity for some amazing and deserving young women to meet and engage with mentors, a known best practice in education.”

The Executive Office of the President has also acknowledged that, “Jump-starting girls’ interest in STEM subjects, boosting the percentage of scientists and engineers who are women – which rested at a mere 24% in 2009 – and giving greater prominence to strong role models is not just the right thing to do, but the smart thing to do,” (White House Correspondence, June 2013).

About arc

arc  was formed in May, 2001, under the name GOOD SPORTS PLUS. It was the dream of two avid athletes and outdoorsmen who saw the lack of quality programs in Los Angeles as an opportunity to pursue a profession that was a passion. Gary Lipsky and Brad Lupien merged their diverse professional backgrounds into a strong partnership and a firm mission statement.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, arc currently works with over 21,500 students each year, including many private, public, and charter schools, churches and synagogues, as well as several school districts and municipal parks departments.
