The Importance of Website Monitoring

August 31, 2012Just over a day ago a massive computer glitch in United Airlines computer system led to widespread flight delays, cancellations and backed up traffic. Which leads us to question who’s managing United’s Data Center?
Just over a day ago a computer glitch in United Airlines system caused nationwide delays, wreaking havoc in airports all across america. The systematic failure led to massive flight delays, extremely long lines and questionable customer service on behalf of United Airlines
Customers Stranded – Flights Delayed
According to an AP news release, only first class customers were given priority leaving the majority of travelers stranded for hours on end. The computer glitch also caused planes to back up end to end on the tarmac, something flight control hasn’t witnessed in decades. It’s as if this computer failure set the airline back 50 years overnight. United has stated that the cause of the glitch is un-known which leads us to question, who is managing United’s Data Center? Or more importantly, why aren’t any redundant backup systems in place to prevent mistakes like this from happening?
Perhaps it’s time for the Airline to fire or outsource their data center needs to an organization more credible. Airlines should treat travel data more seriously as disasters like this affect the lives of many. Not only that, but if flight info were lost, what about navigation or communication to flights.

We’re not sure how the system works, but one things for sure, United Airlines can manage their computer data way more effectively to prevent mistakes like this from happening. Gosh, anyone see that Breaking Bad episode? Not to freak anyone out, but hey, human error as well as computer errors are a serious threat to aviation safety, security and in this case-flight scheduling.
United Remedying The Situation
United has made efforts to remedy the situation in the past 24 hours, not charging for re-routes, re-schedules etc. Hopefully all of those travelers got to where they were headed by now. All we can say is, for gosh sakes United! Backup your data on a managed server that won’t lose vital flight information. Perhaps a credible colocation service is what they need if they don’t already have one. We’re not saying, just saying. Until next time I think we’ll opt to fly American instead. Good luck to all those folks flying United at the moment. We sincerely hope you get to your destination safe and sound.
